A little about CCB . . .
Cycling Club Breckland was formed in 1975 – it takes its name from the Breckland area of South-west Norfolk – originally an area of light sandy soil, heath and the native Scots Pine, but now much of this area is covered by Thetford Forest.
The club holds activities over a wide area of Norfolk, and has weekly club meetings at Shipdham United Reform Church Hall – between Dereham and Watton, starting about 20:00.
Sunday clubruns leave Dereham Market Place near the War Memorial at 9:00 for a ride of approximately 50 miles at 15-16 mph.
Cycling Club Breckland is not sponsored, but is a sponsor of East Anglian Children's Hospices (EACH). The very popular 'Ride for Life' organised with Eastern Counties Newspapers, for EACH, is based at Santon Downham in the heart of the Thetford Forest. Cycling Club Breckland is indeed lucky to be situated surrounded by so much excellent cycling country.
A full calendar of time trials is promoted. And even for the less talented the cakes are always of the highest order. In this field of sporting cycling the club has achieved considerable success, holding at various times a number of National Championships and Records.

Bank Holiday Weekend - August 2010
A wild weekend on the weather front with sunny periods, the odd deluge and predominate winds which moved to blast my cooking area wherever I turned my tent.
Several club members attended the Mildenhall Rally, on the 112km Audax, Henry and Louise Dennett, Louise stoking Martin Purser's Tandem Trike, Barry Parker and his wife, Emily, Declan, Henry Periam and Don riding round in blustery conditions.
Ken Price, Peter Fox and Nick Crook rode in the 200km event, but went off course several times before packing it in. John Periam rode and finished the 300km ride starting at 4am, finishing 15:30 later.
At the other end of the distance scale, Martin Badham competed in the Tricycle Grass Track events Omnium, finishing in 4th place after some strenuous efforts at entertaining the crowds. Declan tried his hand on the grass, winning his first event on Sunday, and coming 3rd on Monday. I shall have to dig out the Junior Grass Track cup for the dinner now.
On that subject, wearing my Racing Secretary's hat, I would appreciate
a) Rider's times for the season and claims for trophies, records or standards when you have completed your season, and
b) return of club trophies, so that I can get them engraved ready for the Dinner.
Please ring (01603 897738) or email me to arrange, I can collect them at club-room, though I need to know to go there in the car.

CIRCUIT RACING AT NORWICH AIRPORT
From Fergus Muir
There is room for more riders in all categories in the criteriums at Norwich Airport Park & Ride.
The 600 yard circuit is proving excellent – it is good for riders new to road racing because it’s eight corners every 60-70 seconds are an education, and it’s good for top riders because the strong and the skilful don’t find lesser rivals hanging on for long.
The main races are in the afternoon, so it is possible to race elsewhere in the morning if you wish – five entrants last Sunday had also taken part in the Mid-Suffolk Road Race earlier in the day.
Norwich Airport Park & Ride is off the A140 Cromer Road, 3 miles north of Norwich city centre. National Grid Ref is TG213130 , postcode for satnavs: NR6 6JT
There are toilets and refreshments right close to the start/finish.
For those who don’t have a racing licence, day licences are available, and anyway are not needed for the 1pm Go-Race for novices and come-back men. The crits are subsidised by the local authority as part of the run-up to the visit of the Tour of Britain, so this is mass-start racing about as cheap as it can be.
There are three more days of racing – Sundays 22nd August, 5th and 12th September.
All the details are on a separate page at the Lotus Cars Cycle Race League website or phone Ken Jolliffe 01953 681755
COACHING AT THE AIRPORT FOR YOUNG RIDERS
Before the racing there are morning coaching sessions for young riders (age 8-16) from 9:30 – 11:30. All you need is a bike, a helmet and a signed registration form – or a parent with a pen. Russell Parkins (01603 490837) has the details
