  A little about CCB . . .

Cycling Club Breckland was formed in 1975 – it takes its name from the Breckland area of South-west Norfolk – originally an area of light sandy soil, heath and the native Scots Pine, but now much of this area is covered by Thetford Forest.

The club holds activities over a wide area of Norfolk, and has weekly club meetings at Shipdham United Reform Church Hall – between Dereham and Watton, starting about 20:00.

Sunday clubruns leave Dereham Market Place near the War Memorial at 9:00 for a ride of approximately 50 miles at 15-16 mph.

Cycling Club Breckland is not sponsored, but is a sponsor of East Anglian Children's Hospices (EACH). The very popular 'Ride for Life' organised with Eastern Counties Newspapers, for EACH, is based at Santon Downham in the heart of the Thetford Forest. Cycling Club Breckland is indeed lucky to be situated surrounded by so much excellent cycling country.

A full calendar of time trials is promoted. And even for the less talented the cakes are always of the highest order. In this field of sporting cycling the club has achieved considerable success, holding at various times a number of National Championships and Records.

Social scene Tour de Bretagne - Photos

Tour de Bretagne photos are now on-line.

www.sportfsgt29.asso.fr/

Click on 'Activités' in Blue, 'Activités' in Red then 'cyclisme' (on the bar of the blue 'T').
This takes you to the Cycling page, now click on 'Gallerie Photos', '2010', Saison Cyclotouriste' then 'TDBretagne' or 'TDBretange²'.

Click on the photo and the set appears, click again on a photo and it will come up larger, another click fills the screen. Clicking the 'Right' arrow on the keyboard will progress through the album, though I couldn't make the 'Left' arrow work the same. I needed to use the Left arrow on screen. The Yellow double arrow kicks off a slide show.

I think all the chaps are there, presumably the photos of the Rambles will appear shortly.

Social scene Note of caution to fellow rider's

Anonymous writes "Hi All,

Just a quick tale of an eventful ride in the Norwich 100 BHF ride on Sunday and few points for safe and trouble free riding.

Point 1 - Don't try and sit in with the VC Norwich - they're too damn quick. I sat in and worked with them for a while, thankfully I need a pee and was able to drop off the back.

Point 2 - Make sure your front wheel is done up securely - I was following a small group of riders, (as it happened luckily enough not to close) when one of the riders was elevated over the handlebars of his bike. Net result was three other coming down or into him. It would appear that he hit a bump in the road and his front wheel dropped out - and wedge itself between the frame and chain rings.

Point 3 - refers to point 2 - The guy ended up with a nasty (deep) cut above his eye and possible broken collarbone and general abrasions, in my opinion the cut to his head would not have happened had he been wearing a helmet.

Point 4 - Always carry a chain tool and one of the quicklink things, that way when your chain breaks (happened when I left the scene of the crash) and bizarrely I had a puncture at the same time, you wouldn't have to sit on the side of the road for an hour waiting for assistance to fix it.

The ride itself was well attended, and well organised. Good showing of VC Norwich, Norwich ABC and North Norfolk Wheelers riders and to my knowledge one CCB'er - me !

I finally got to the finish at just before 3.00pm (started at 7.00) having spent 2 hours on the side
of the road assisting the injured rider, police & paramedics (who did a superb job) and waiting for my chain to be fixed. (thanks to the Guy's from Lifecycles). I rode a total of 112 mile (including Wymondham to the Start) in a on bike riding time of 6 hours and 23 mins. Which means I technically achieved my objective in getting round in under 6 hours.

A Good days riding, would be great to see some more CCB Riders entering perhaps next year ?

One final thing big up to the guy who did the ride on fully blown Cervelo TT Bike complete with Areo Helmet !! he must have sweated buckets !

From Mark Fairhead"
